Productive Gardens

The spring rain has been wonderful but has allowed a lot of weed seed to germinate and take over stressed turf areas. Help is at hand with Searles Lawn Perfect which will control many broadleaf weeds in couch lawns. I have this ready for dispatch at $23 for the large 500ml size.

Pyrethrum Long Life Insect Spray This product is specially formulated to stabilise the pyrethrum so that it has a much longer life – up to 20 days outdoors and up to 40 days indoors. It can be used on all fruit, vegetable and ornamental plants to control a wide range of insects including aphid, whitefly, thrip, cabbage moth, ants and earwigs. This product combines the advantages of a long-lasting insecticide with an environmentally safe product. It is available in a convenient ready-to-use 750mL trigger pack.

One thing I love about this business, is the variety of jobs and the unusual requests that we get. This was certainly the case this week when I was approached as to whether we could supply a fully advanced vegetable garden to a set they were filming on, at Movie World on the Gold Coast, at very short notice. Always up for a challenge, I said yes. So in the rain, which made it really ideal, we set about transplanting everything from our vegie garden into large pots for the journey to Movie World. Luckily most of the the plants were at the right stage ready for harvest and included broccoli, zucchini, leek, shallots, silver beet, lettuce and tomatoes. What I did notice in the digging up, was how well the Wet Pot watering system was maintaining moisture in the root zone. I hadn’t watered the beds since they were planted out. I will keep you informed when I find out more about the movie.
